How to create a Timeline Page

1. How to access

To create a new Timeline Menu Item:

  • Step 1: Select Menus → [name of the menu] from the drop-down menu on the back-end of your Joomla! installation (for example, Menus → Main Menu).
  • Step 2: Click New to create a new menu item or click on an existing item to edit.
  • Step 3: Click the Menu Item Type Select button and then click the Timeline link under the Articles link.

To edit an existing Timeline Menu Item, click its Title in Menu Manager: Menu Items.

2.    Details Tab

This layout requires you to select:

  • Choose category: you can select all categories or select one of the categories
  • Menu Title: The title that will display for this menu item
  • Menu Location: The menu that this menu item will be part of. The menus defined for the site will show in the list box.

3.    TZ Basic Options

The TZ Basic Options control the way that timeline and some other information is shown in the layout. The Timeline Layout has the following TZ Basic Options, as shown below.

  • Redirect To: (Use Global/Default/Blog Article/Portfolio Article). Display detail article in front of Blog article page or Portfolio article page.
  • Article Limit: Optional field that follows you to customize number of articles.
  • Use Filter First Letter: (Use Global/No/Yes). Whether or not to use filter with the first letter of the article title.
  • First Letter Text: Optional field that allows you to use the first letter of the article title to filter. Must enter the letters in the form of “a,b,c,d…”.
  • Show Limit Box: (Use Global/Hide/Show). Whether or not to show the limit box on this page.
  • Choose a Layout: (Use Global/Default/Classic). The layout to shown on this page.
  • Date Display Under: (Use Global/Month/Year/Month And Year). The time group is display on this page if this layout is the default.
  • Choose A Layout Paging: (Use Global/Default/Ajax Button/Ajax Infinitescroll). Default Layout Paging for Portfolio and Timeline page.
  • Show Filter: (Use Global/Hide/Show). Whether or not to show filter masonry.
  • Filter Type. (Use Global/Tags/Categories). Data Tags or categories are displayed to filter articles.
  • Filter Order. (Use Global/Auto/Ascending/Descending). Whether or not to filter Tags or categories with item chosen.
  • Show Sort. (Use Global/Hide/Show). Whether or not to show the article’s sort.
  • Show Layout. (Use Global/Hide/Show). Whether or not to show the article’s layout.
  • Layout Type. (Use Global/Masonry/Fit Rows/Straight Down). The type to display article columns.
  • Column Width. Optional field that allows you to customize a column width of the article.
  • Feature Column Width. Optional field that allows you to customize a column width of the featured article.
  • Introtext Limit. Optional field that allows you to customize number from the introductory text of the article.
  • Show Attachments. (Use Global/Hide/Show). Whether or not to show the article’s attachments.
  • Show Extra Fields. (Use Global/Hide/Show). Whether or not to show the article’s Extrafield.
  • Extra Field Type. (Use Global/Text/Image/Text And Image). To display article as a text, image, text and image.
  • Fields Order. (Use Global/Most Recent first/Oldest first/Title Alphabetical/Title Reverse Alphabetical/Ordering). The order that fields will show in.
  • Show Tags. (Use Global/Hide/Show). Whether or not to show the article’s tags.
  • Show User. (Use Global/Hide/Show). Whether or not to show the article’s user.
  • Show User’s Gender. (Use Global/Hide/Show). Whether or not to show the User’s Gender of the article.
  • Show User’s Email. (Use Global/Hide/Show). Whether or not to show the User’s Email of the article.
  • Show User’s Url. (Use Global/Hide/Show). Whether or not to show the User’s Url of the article.
  • Show User’s Description. (Use Global/Hide/Show). Whether or not to show the User’s Description of the article.
  • Article Order. Order of articles in this Layout. The following options are available.

  • Use Global: Use the default value from the component options screen.
  • Featured Articles Order: Articles are ordered according to the Order column entered in Article Manager: Featured Article.
  • Most recent first: Articles are displayed starting with the most recent and ending with the oldest.
  • Oldest first: Articles are displayed starting with the oldest and ending with the most recent.
  • Title Alphabetical: Articles are displayed by Title in alphabetical order (A to Z)
  • Title Reverse Alphabetical: Articles are displayed by Title in reverse alphabetical order (Z to A)
  • Author Alphabetical: Articles are displayed by Author in alphabetical order (A to Z)
  • Author Reverse Alphabetical: Articles are displayed by Author in reverse alphabetical order (Z to A)
  • Most Hits: Articles are displayed by the number of hits, starting with the one with the most hits and ending with the one with the least hits
  • Least Hits: Articles are displayed by the number of hits, starting with the one with the least hits and ending with the one with the most hits
  • Article Manager Order: Articles are ordered according to the Order column entered in the Article Manager.
