How to use the tab “Article”

There are 3 setting levels for “Articles” tab

1.    Components / TZ Portfolio /Options /Articles

These settings apply for article layouts unless they are changed for a specific menu item or a specific article.

  • Choose a layout: It is the default layout to use for items.
  • Show title: If set to show, the article title will be shown.
  • Linked titles: If set to Yes, the article title will be a link to the article.
  • Show Intro Text: If set to show, the Intro Text of the article will show when you drill down to the article. If set to Hide, only the part of the article after the “Read More” break will show.
  • Show category: If set to Show, the title of the article’s category will be shown.
  • Link category: If set to Yes, and if Show Category is set to “Show”, the Category Title will link to a layout showing articles in that Category.
  • Show parent: If set to Show, the title of the article’s parent category will show.
  • Link Parent: If set to Yes, and if Show Parent is set to “Show”, the Parent Category Title will link to a layout showing articles in that category.
  • Show Author: If set to Show, the Name of the article’s Author will be displayed. This is a global setting but can be changed at the Category, Menu and Article levels.
  • Link Author: If set to Yes, the Name of the Article’s Author will be linked to its contact page. You must create a contact linked to the author’s user record, and the “Content-Contact” plugin must be enabled, for this to be in effect. This is a global setting but can be changed at the Category, Menu and Article levels.
  • Show Create Date: If set to Show, the date and time when an Article was created will be displayed. This is a global setting but can be changed at Menu and Article levels.
  • Show Modify Date: the date and time when an article was last modified will be displayed. This is a global setting but can be changed at the Category, Menu and Article levels.
  • Show Publish Date: If set to Show, the date and time when an Article was published will be displayed. This is a global setting but can be changed at the Category, Menu and Article levels.
  • Show Navigation: If set to Show, show a navigation link (Next, Previous) between articles.
  • Show Voting: If set to show, a voting system will be enabled for articles.
  • Show “Read More”: If set to show, the Readmore….Link will show if Main text has been provided.
  • Show Title with Read More: If set to show the Title of the article will be shown on the Read More button.
  • Read More Limit: Set a limit of number of characters in Article Title to show in Read More button.
  • Show icons: Print and email will utilize icons or text.
  • Show Print Icon: Show/Hide the Item Print button.
  • Show Email Icon: Show/Hide the email icon. This allows you to email an article.
  • Show Hits: If set to Show, the number of Hits on a particular Article will be displayed. This is a global setting but can be changed at the Category, Menu and Article levels.
  • Show unauthorized links: If set to Yes, links to registered content will be shown even if you are not logged-in. You will need to log in to access the full item.
  • Positioning of the Links: It is used to display the links above or below the content

RELATED ARTICLE:

  • Show Related Article: Show or Hide the Related Article.
  • Limit related: you can limited the number of related articles.
  • Show related heading: Show or Hide the related heading on the article.
  • Related Heading: You can write any heading which you want.
  • Show Related as: You can select one of three things such Only Title, Only Image, Title and Image.
  • Featured Articles: Show or Hide the featured article
  • Related image Size: If the related article’s image is shown, this image is shown with width chosen.
  • Related Order: Order of related articles in this Layout

2.    Menus/main Menu/a specific menu

Each Layout has its own Article Options, as shown below. These options determine how the articles will show in that layout.

In addition to Yes/No or Hide/Show, these options allow the following settings.

  •   Use Global: Use the default value from Article Manager Options.
  •   Use Article Settings: Use the value from the Article Manager Edit. This setting allows you to have different options for different articles in the blog layout. For example, one article could show the author and other articles could hide the author.

The Article Options are as follows.

  • Show Title. (Use Global/Use Article Settings/Hide/Show). Whether or not to show the Article’s Title.
  • Linked Titles. (Use Global/Use Article Settings/No/Yes). If the Article’s Title is shown, whether to show it as a link to the article.
  • Show Intro Text. (Use Global/Use Article Settings/Hide/Show). If set to Show, the Intro Text of the article will show when you drill down to the article. If set to Hide, only the part of the article after the “Read More” break will show.
  • Show Category. (Use Global/Use Article Settings/Hide/Show). Whether or not to show the Article’s Category.
  • Link Category. (Use Global/Use Article Settings/No/Yes). If the Article’s Category is shown, whether to show it as a link to a Category layout (list or blog) for that Category.
  • Show Parent. (Use Global/Use Article Settings/Hide/Show). Whether or not to show the Article’s Parent Category.
  • Link Parent. (Use Global/Use Article Settings/No/Yes). If the Article’s Parent Category is shown, whether to show it as a link to a Category layout (list or blog) for that Category.
  • Show Author. (Use Global/Use Article Settings/Hide/Show) Whether to show the author of the Article.
  • Link Author. (Use Global/Use Article Settings/No/Yes). If the Article’s author is shown, whether to show it as a link to a Contact layout for that author. Note that the author must be set up as a Contact in Contact Manager.
  • Show Create Date. (Use Global/Use Article Settings/Hide/Show). Whether or not to show the Article’s create date.
  • Show Modify Date. (Use Global/Use Article Settings/Hide/Show). Whether or not to show the Article’s modify date.
  • Show Publish Date. (Use Global/Use Article Settings/Hide/Show). Whether or not to show the Article’s start publishing date.
  • Show Navigation. (Use Global/Use Article Settings/Hide/Show). Whether or not to show a navigation link (for example, Next or Previous article) when you drill down to the article.
  • Show Voting. (Use Global/Use Article Settings/Hide/Show). Whether or not to show the voting icon for the article.
  • Show Read More. (Use Global/Hide/Show). Whether or not to show a “Read More” link to allow a drill down to the entire article.
  • Show Title with Read More. (Use Global/Hide/Show). If set to Show, the Article’s title will show in the “Read More” button.
  • Show Icons. (Use Global/Use Article Settings/Hide/Show). If set to Show, Print and Email will use icons instead of text.
  • Show Print Icon. (Use Global/Use Article Settings/Hide/Show). Show or Hide the Print Article button.
  • Show Email Icon. (Use Global/Use Article Settings/Hide/Show). Show or Hide the Email Article button.
  • Show Hits. (Use Global/Use Article Settings/Hide/Show). Show or Hide the number of times the article has been hit (displayed by a user).
  • Show Unauthorised Links. (Use Global/No/Yes). If Yes, the Intro Text for restricted articles will show. Clicking on the “Read More” link will require users to log in to view the full article content.
  • Show Related Article. (Use Global/Hide/Show). Show or Hide the Related Article.
  • Show Related Heading. (Use Global/Hide/Show). Show or Hide the related heading on the article.
  • Related Heading. Optional field that allow you to customize the relate heading.
  • Show Related As. (Use Global/Only Title/Only Image/Title And Image). Related articles are displayed in the selected format.
  • Featured Articles. (Use Global/Hide/Show). Show or Hide the featured article.
  • Related Image Size. (Use Global/XSmall/Small/Medium/Large/XLarge). If the related article’s image is shown, this image is shown with width chosen.
  • Related Order. (Use Global/Most Recent/Most Oldest/Most Hits/Least Hits). Order of related articles in this Layout.
